Syntha-6 Nutrition facts
As we already know from the name, there are six types of both slow and fast-digesting protein in BSN Syntha-6. I listed them in the same order as the nutrition label, because usually, the ingredients that brands list first make up the majority of the supplement.
- Whey protein (concentrate & isolate)
- Calcium caseinate
- Micellar Casein
- Milk protein isolate
- Egg Albumen (egg white powder)
The protein contributes 22g towards the relatively high 200 calorie total, which also consists of carbs (15g) and fats (6g). There are also 6 minerals including 10% of the RDI for magnesium and phosphorus, 8% of the RDI for iron and potassium, and 15% of the RDI for calcium, which is unsurprising given that 5 out of the 6 protein sources come from dairy.
There's also essential fatty acids (EFAS) and medium chain triglycerides (MCT), which provide energy to the body at rest, and during exercise.
Making up the rest of the ingredient label are soy lecithin, which is used to bind ingredients together, cellulose gum — a common food stabilizer, and sweeteners including sucralose and acesulfame potassium.
BSN's Syntha-6 is free from aspartame.
As you may know, milk is roughly 80% casein and 20% whey. When the milk is processed to make products, the casein goes towards cheese and yogurts, while the leftover liquid is used to make whey protein.
It's a very high-quality protein source that contributes nicely to the 10 grams of essential amino acids in BSN Syntha-6. Due to containing natural carbs and fats, it digests rapidly when consumed, which elevates the body's amino acid supply that is used for growing and repairing muscle tissue, as well as many vital functions.
Whey isolate is very similar to concentrate but is further processed to remove as many fats and carbs as possible, which gives us a higher amount of protein per serving.
Because the whey doesn't have to compete with as many fats and carbs, it is digested faster, leading to a more rapid elevation of protein synthesis in the muscles.
Calcium caseinate is a close relative of the favorite micellar casein, which we will discuss in just a moment. It is naturally high in glutamine, calcium, and phosphorus, and is used by bodybuilders seeking a protein that is slow to break down.
Micellar casein is the first slow digesting protein. It's created when the whey and casein are separated during the processing of milk, and out of all the protein sources, is the slowest digesting. It's one reason why taking BSN's signature protein shake before bed is a good idea.
Milk Protein Isolate
It all begins with fresh milk. The lactose is first removed through either filtering or dialysis, eliminating much of, if not all of the sugar. This leaves us with around 80% casein and 20% whey, which is the ratio naturally found in milk.
But since milk protein isolate is filtered, it's very pure and contains 90% protein with barely any fat (only around 3%), which makes it a favorite among those who are lactose intolerant.
"Albumen" refers to the protein contained in the egg white. While the yolk gets all the credit, it's the white part that provides the most amino acids.
Egg whites are a great complement to the other sources of protein in the formula because they are both dairy and fat-free. And like milk protein isolate, it's suitable for those who are lactose intolerant.
Please note, Syntha-6 does contain lactose.
Who Can Benefit From Taking It?
Anyone who tolerates lactose can enjoy the beneficial effects of BSN Syntha-6. One scoop has 10g of essential amino acids, to promote muscle growth and fast-track recovery, 5g of fiber for healthy digestion, as well as EFAs and MCTs for efficient energy and overall health.
Although suitable for most people, those who will get the best effects are those who exercise regularly, especially with weights or body weight, or those who do not get enough protein in their day-to-day diets.

Per 1 scoop of powder, mix in around 4-5 oz of liquid and shake well. Use your favorite milk to bump up the protein up another notch, add additional calories, and intensify the creaminess of the shake.
If you are trying to lose weight and are worried about the calories from the milk, either use cold water or simply factor the milk into your macros for a stress-free shake.
Either way, we still found it to taste remarkably creamy, which we were glad of considering that it's quite high in calories (200).
When To Take Syntha-6
The directions recommend taking 1-2 scoops, 1-4 times a day, or as needed to meet your protein intake. We definitely agree with these recommendations.
However, based on the latest science, we think there are two times in particular when taking Syntha-6 will enable you to enjoy its best effects.
Taking Syntha-6 After A Workout
Unless you've just drunk a shaker bottle full of BCAAs, your muscles are crying out for a post-workout protein feeding.
After being torn down repeatedly by heavy lifting, the muscles will gladly absorb any kind of amino acids you give them, and with 10g of naturally-occurring EAAs, it is a top choice for muscle growth or mass.
Before Going To Bed
We're not asking you to slam down Syntha-6 right before laying your head on the pillow, but getting in a shake before hitting the sack is a sound strategy to protect against overnight muscle catabolism.
Sizes, Servings, And Scoop
You can buy BSN Syntha-6 in two different sizes, depending on your budget, and how many servings you want.
A standard 4 lb (2.27 kg) gets you around 48 servings, which is probably the best size to go for if it's your first time using it.
The other size is 10 lbs (4.5 kg) and contains an incredible 97 servings. This is best reserved or those with the budget, or those who know what flavor hits the sport for them.
In both serving sizes, the scoop weight 48 g, which is above average for a product in this category.
What Is The Best Flavor?
There are a grand total of nine Syntha 6 flavors to choose from, and for what our opinion is worth, it is some of, if not the best tasting protein powder to ever grace our shaker bottles.
For reference, we tried the "Chocolate Milkshake" flavor, but have heard good things about the likes of Vanilla Ice Cream and Birthday cake (Coldstone).
While certainly not the lowest calorie protein shakes out there, for 200 calories, we had absolutely no complaints.
