This time around, we decided to go ahead and give their signature protein powder a try, to see if it’s better than regular whey, like they claim. In our MuscleTech Nitro Tech review, we give you a brutally honest insight into their formula, flavors, and effectiveness, to see if it's it worth a shot?

Nitro Tech Nutrition facts
MuscleTech kicks off the supplement facts label with a mixture of whey proteins (30g) that include whey peptides, whey isolate, and whey isolate 97%, which is about as pure as it gets. There's also a nice dose of creatine monohydrate (3g), for strength gains, and BCAAs, (6.8g), to stimulate protein synthesis.
Making up the average 160 calorie total, are a few grams of carbs (4g), of which only 2g are sugars, and a couple grams of fats (2.5g), which are naturally present in whey protein.
Whey & Whey Isolates
Rounding off the ingredient label is some cholesterol (80 mg), as well as 14% of the RDI for calcium, and 6% for both iron and sodium. There's also some digestive enzymes, which can be helpful on a high-protein diet, in addition to typical sweeteners sucralose and acesulfame potassium, which are used to enhance the taste.
The final ingredients are cellulose gum, xanthan gum, and carrageenan, which are used to thicken the powder (more on mixability in a bit), and preserve the formula, by keeping the ingredients bound together.
Nitro Tech Ingredients
MuscleTech split their formula into 3 main blends (none of which are proprietary), to help the body in different ways such as strength, muscle growth, and recovery.
This extravagantly named substance is merely pure, HPLC-tested creatine monohydrate, which is mainly used to enhance strength. It works by filling up your muscles creatine stores, giving them a greater ability to produce explosive force, which is most noticeable on heavy lifts like the bench press, squat, and deadlift.
By increasing intramuscular creatine supplies, it can make your muscles look fuller and more pumped. It's also why you retain water and increase in body weight while taking creatine. You're not gaining fat, (at least not from the creatine), but your muscles are effectively inflating a little bit because they have more water inside them.
Not everyone likes retaining water, but for me, I'll take any free and safe size gains I can get. Which brings me to the best thing about creatine…
It's research proven. Unlike other scammy supplements, creatine monohydrate has been tested with success in more studies than you could imagine.
And you don't even need to take it separately (if you use Nitro-Tech), saving you the headache of remembering. And with 3g in each scoop, Nitro Tech is an excellent protein powder for creatine loading, which can get you results faster.
On the recovery side of the tub, we get branched chain amino acids, which are broken down into leucine (3.3g), isoleucine (1.8g), and valine (1.7g). Collectively, they help to fast track recovery by reducing DOMS, switching protein synthesis on, and over time, creating new muscle growth, enabling you to lift more weight and perform extra reps.
With such a potent dose of BCAAs, it's unlikely that you'll need to take extra amino acids during training, especially if you have Nitro Tech as your post-workout shake. This is obviously great for saving some money, but it's also much more convenient having to make only one shake for the gym.
Whey Protein Blend
In total, there are 4 types of whey protein listed on the nutritional label. One of which, Is particularly interesting, because it's 97% whey, which is about as high as you're going to get. Let's take a look at them in the order they appear.
The first protein source is whey peptides. This is simply another, a more scientific term for ‘whey protein.' Peptide refers to a compound with more than two amino acids, and with whey protein boasting a remarkable 20 amino acids, it is most certainly made from peptides.
The second type of protein is whey isolate. Being stripped of most of its carbs and fats, it's purer than concentrate. However, this can come at a cost. The carbs and fats are usually filtered out with harsh heat treatment, which can damage the enzymes in the protein itself.
The good news is, MuscleTech don't put Nitro Tech though this process. Instead, they use a cold microfiltration mechanism, which doesn't use undesirable solvents, and can preserve some of the beneficial enzymes found in natural whey. Overall, this is a much more natural way of producing whey protein isolate.
Whey isolate 97%
The third type of whey is whey isolate 97%, which put simply, is the purest form of protein you can get. It's virtually free of lactose and fats, and almost all of its calories are derived from protein, making it the best choice for those who are lactose intolerant.
The final type of protein is whey concentrate. While not as pure as an isolate, it does have beneficial antioxidants and vital nutrients such as immunoglobulins, that help support a healthy immune system.
Who Can Benefit From Taking It?
Based on our MuscleTech Nitro tech review, anyone looking to gain respectable muscle and strength can benefit from supplementing with it.
From our experience, we know that creatine is one of the safest, yet most effective supplements for breaking strength plateaus. Add to this the recovery advantages that come with BCAAs, and it is no wonder that Nitro tech is a top choice for those seeking an all-in-one muscle growth supplement.
With Nitro Tech, buying designer forms of creatine becomes a thing of the past, and taking extra BCAAs may not even be necessary given the 6.8g dose per scoop.
Those who will get the most from Nitro-Tech, are those who train hard with weights regularly. If you don't lift with the intention of getting bigger or stronger and are just looking to keep fit (nothing wrong with that!), then give Nitro Tech a miss.
However, if you are seeking results in the size or strength departments, then you may well benefit from using Nitro Tech post-workout, and between meals.
How To Use It Properly
Mix one serving (46g) in around 6 oz of water or mix 2 servings (92g) in 12 oz of water.
You can also use skim milk for more protein and a creamier flavor.
For maximum results, MuscleTech recommends consuming 4 daily scoops of Nitro Tech, for a minimum of 6 weeks.
When Should I Take Nitro Tech?
Being naturally high in whey protein, BCAAs, glutamine, and creatine, Nitro Tech can be taken anytime with positive effects for the muscles.
However, to enjoy its best effects, it's recommended that you use it between major meals, and especially after training. Why?
Well, research shows that creatine is best taken after training rather than before. Plus, before hitting the gym, you haven't really created a massive demand for amino acids.
Now, I'm not saying you should train fasted — that's not a good idea for muscle growth. However, there is just no other time when your muscles demand protein than post-workout, which is the best time to use Nitro tech.
Sizes, Servings, Scoop
It is available in 4 different sizes, around 16 flavors, with a standard 4lb having roughly 40 servings. The exact number of scoops and scoop size depends on which flavor you buy, but on average, the scoop is around 45g.
The Available Flavors
In total, there are around 16 flavors, including some exciting options like Snickerdoodle and Toasted S'mores, which we haven't seen from other brands.
For those seeking a naturally-flavored option, Nitro Tech comes in Natural Vanilla and Natural Milk Chocolate, which use stevia instead of sucralose and acesulfame potassium.
We tried the powder with both water and skimmed milk, to test the consistency. Overall, we say go with cold water, unless you're aiming for a really thick milkshake texture. The sweetness is just right when you mix it with water, but adding milk into the equation tips it over the edge in our opinion.
For comparison, we preferred the taste of Nitro Tech to that of Gold Standard Whey, which tends to run milder.
